Urban Sustainable Development in Tehran: A comparative analysis of MCDM methods

Traffic management plays a vital role in the promotion of sustainable development. On the other hand, public transportation is one of the most important systems in transportation, especially in big and crowded cities. Therefore, evaluation of public transportation systems is a strategic decision-making problem. This paper helps managers to make their decisions basing on the sustainable development strategy of Tehran. In this paper, the problems of public transportation customers in Tehran are postmarked and their satisfaction levels are assessed by using customer satisfaction survey and statistical analysis. Since the evaluation of public transportation systems involves morethan one criterion, this evaluation can be modeled as a multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) problem. An integrated MCDM approach is proposed for evaluation of public transportation systems based on group analytic hierarchy process (GAHP) and four MCDM methods MCDM methods generate different results due to the difference in their mathematical modelling while solving a decision problem. To resolve this disagreement a Borda count method was used. The proposed model provides more reliable and realistic results, and introduces directions forfuture improvements of public transportation service quality.
