Approach to Ebstain Anomaly

Ebstein malformation is a rare disease that presents with a spectrum of severity .There is two main groups of patient s whit this anomaly: Neonates and Children/Adults. Ebstein anomaly has heterogeneous anatomy. There is currently no consensus of opinion regarding the optimal surgical management of Ebstein sanomaly (EA) in neonates and young infants. Most symptomatic neonates with EA will require early operation and this is the challenging part. .Definite diagnosis of EA anomaly and anatomical details is the key of success for management of the disease. Understanding the pathophysiology of Ebstein anomaly lead the surgeons to do the right treatment in right time. Close collaboration between cardiologist and cardiac surgeon in the managing the patient is essential. There are several surgical options for this patients regarding to clinical presentation, age and severity of disease .for better results this patients should admit and treat in referral centers and by skillful congenital cardiac surgeon. There is no way to ignore the learning curve also.in this article we will review the basic principles of Ebstein anomaly and express most common and new surgical techniques (e.g. cone repair ,Starnes procedure)that lead to better results.
