Pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy (PUPP) is a chronic non-contagious skin hives-like rash that occurs in 1% of pregnant women which results in red, bumpy skin that constantly and intensely itches. The papules and plaques often first appear within stretch marks. Hives are caused by allergic reactions. PUPPP is the most common skin condition specific to pregnancy. These itchy rashes usually start in the stretch marks of the abdomen and spread to the thighs, buttocks, breasts, and arms in the last 3 months of pregnancy then clears with delivery. PUPP happens more often in a woman s first pregnancy. Treatment in conventional medicine are using topical creams or lotions such as hydrocortisone cream, calamine, and Benadryl or Oatmeal bath. The aim of the study is to explain the treatment of hives in pregnancy based on Persian medicine. Material and Methods: This is a review study of hives during pregnancy by searching the valid Persian medical books such as Canon of Avicenna and Sharh_al_asbab and also electronic databases such as google scholar and Pub Med with the key words like Urticaria, Hives, and pregnancy Findings: According to Persian medical books, the general cause of urticarial papules of pregnancy is the accumulation of annoying waste materials in the skin, which, due to the increase of these materials that are shed into the insignificant body (the skin). So, for the treatment, the most important way is to open the body obstacles and move the waste material out. However, treatment of constipation with eating useful food such as barley soup with vegetables and improving liver function with fumitory (Fumaria officinalis) should be considered. Conclusion: Persian medicine has simple and accessible treatments in pregnancy rashes such as hives which is suggested to use in these problems after approving them by conducting clinical trials
