Health literacy can be defined as the ability to read, understand and act on the basis of health and wellness advice. People with inadequate health literacy are less likely to understand the written and spoken information provided by health professionals and act according to instructions given by them. They also have poorer health status and more medical expenses. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the health literacy status of patients admitted to the Jovein city of Qamar Bani Hashem Hospital in 2016. Material and Methods: This is a descriptive-analytic study. The study population is all patients admitted to Qomar Bani Hashem Hospital in Jowin City in 1396. Sampling was done in accessible form and 330 students were selected as sample according to the research community. The data gathering tool was a functional health literacy questionnaire in adults. Data were collected by questionnaire on patients bedside and analyzed by SPSS 21 software in descriptive (frequency distribution, mean, standard deviation) and inferential (independent T test, one way ANOVA, Pearson correlation test and Spearman correlation).Findings: Most of the patients had inadequate and borderline health literacy. The average of the health literacy scores of the patients under study in the field of computing was almost inadequate in terms of reading comprehension. There was a direct correlation between the variables and the health literacy scores. There was a direct correlation between education level and health literacy scores. There was no significant relationship between gender, income and health literacy level, while there was a significant relationship between occupation of patients and health literacy who were housewives, retired and less literate workers.Conclusion: Most of the patients with inadequate and marginal health literacy were. These patients need more explanation for understanding and using health information, and it is necessary to spend more time communicating with their health care provider in order to obtain information in a simpler and more understandable language. Therefore, by developing comprehensive programs, creating simple and comprehensible media and educational materials, as well as efficient educational interventions for inadequate health literate individuals, effective steps can be taken to develop health literacy and health promotion skills in the community
