Survival Analysis of Patients with metastatic Gastric Cancer Using Cox Regression Model

Introduction and Aim: Gastric cancer (GC) is one the most common causes of death all over the world and The fifth most common cancer in Iran. The survival rate after diagnosis is low. The aimed is to assess the survival of patients with metastatic GC and affected factors. Methods: In this study, 109 patients aged from 22 to 85 years old with metastatic GC, referred to trained hospitals in Kerman from 2001 to 2015 are studied and the effect of variables such as age at the time of diagnosis, gender, smoking, addiction, place of living (rural and urban district), surgical, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, histological grade, Morphology, family history were evaluated. We used Cox regression for identifying significant variables. Data were analyzed using version 3.5.1 of R.Results: 74 patients (67.9%) died at the end of follow-up. The mean and median survival time of patients was 24.8±2.8 and 16 months, respectively. Survival probability of one, three and five year of istological gradeh ,In the univariate analysispatients were 0.56, 0.28 and 0.19, respectively. (HR=1.45, p=0.14), opium (HR=1.6, p=.04) and place of living (HR=0.67, p=0.16) were significant prognostic factors, the multivariate analysis showed that opium associated with survival in patients with metastatic gastric cancers (HR=1.72, P=0.03). Conclusions: The survival time for with metastatic GC was found to be short. This time decreased with opium consumption in patients. with early diagnosis GC by screening, the survival time patients with metastatic GC can be increased.
