Introduction & Aim: Prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer are one of the key challenges facing today s human society. Cancer is the third leading cause of death in developing countries, including Iran. Considering that one of the most common cancers in Iran is gastrointestinal cancers, this study investigated the incidence of gastrointestinal cancers in the population in Qazvin province. The province of Qazvin has 1312867 people, of which 76.5% are urban and 23.5% rural. Methods: This study is descriptive-analytic. Data on deaths from cancer were collected from all sources reporting deaths during the year (March 2015 to March 2016) of Qazvin province, registered in Cancer Screening System then the information is analyzed. Results: Of the 5458 registered deaths in 2014 in Qazvin province, 819 (15%) were registered as cases of cancer, Which had 216 cases of gastrointestinal cancers, in the analysis of information, the following findings are obtained: - 4% of all deaths were related to gastrointestinal cancers. - 69% of the deaths were due to gastrointestinal cancers - The death rate from gastrointestinal cancers in urban (17/100000) and in rural (13/100000) - The most common cancer of the digestive tract are Stomach (61%) . and the lowest incidence is related to the small intestine 3%. - The highest deaths associated with gastrointestinal cancers occurred in the age group above 65 years.(85%) Conclusions: Cancer prevention, especially gastrointestinal cancers, by modifying the pattern of food intake, screening and identifying patients in the early stages of the disease, especially in the elderly population, deserve immediate attention and action.
