Effect of Zn on the bioactivity of SiO2-P2O5-CaO glass

IntroductionGlass-ceramics due to unique features has been especially developed, in the medicine field. Porous bioactive glasses are widely used for applications such as drug delivery and tissue engineering.ObjectivesEffect of Zn adding to glass degradability and bioactivity were investigated.MethodsIn this study, the SiO2-P2O5-CaO glass nanoparticles were synthesized by sol-gel method and X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and elemental analysis (EDS) were used to evaluate phase characterization, morphology determination, and elemental analysis, respectively. Samples were exposed to body simulation fluid (SBF) for bioactivity evaluation.ResultsThe XRD and EDS pattern of Zn-nanobioactive glass after 30 days of in vitro SBF studies are shown high crystalline peaks HA are observed in sample. The SEM micrographs of sample soaked in SBF solution for 30 days are show a large crystalline surface due to formation of HAp layer on their surface after 30 days of in vitro studies.ConclusionThe results showed that the samples with 5% mol Zn had the best degradation rate and subsequently the best bioactivity
