چکیده مقاله:

Maxillofacial region is involved in various developmental and congenital defects. The treatment modalities are various. The maxillofacial prosthesis is an alternative treatment when the surgery is not possible. Biomaterials play an important role in replacing human body parts. Biomaterial is a synthetic or a biologic substance, that can be used as an implant or replace as an organ. An ideal biomaterial in maxillofacial prosthesis should be flexible, light, stability in dimensional, biocompatible, high aesthetic, optimal mechanical properties. Hydrogel is a biomaterial which can be used in maxillofacial reconstructions. The biomedical application of hydrogels was described in 1974. Hydrogels are classified to the various ways such as sources, polymeric compositions, physical appearance and electrical charges. In the present study, we will discuss new hydrogels, properties, applications in maxillofacial region and combination with other materials in oral mucositis, bone regeneration and osteoradionecrosis treatment
