IntroductionBioglass is used in tissue engineering for bone regeneration. One of the major problems of bioglass is its low mechanical strength, compared to bone. Considering the desirable mechanical and biological properties of gelatin, this polymer can be used to reinforce the mechanical strength of 3D bioglass scaffolds.The aim of this study was to design and manufacture a 3D bioglass scaffold reinforced with gelatin.MethodsThe bioglass scaffold was made using the sol-gel replica method. After sintering in 860 degrees it was submerged in 15% gelatin solution. After drying it was scanned using XRD-SEM. The mechanical strength was measured using the UTM device and reported as an average from 6 samples.ResultsThe SEM images of the coated scaffold showed gelatin laying on the struts. The average mechanical strength for 15% was 2.4 Mpa.ConclusionThe coated bioglass with-filled the space inside the struts and increased the mechanical strength of the scaffold from near zero to 2.4 MPa.
