Effect of Mir-4731 on U-251 glioblastoma cell line

IntroductionDespite advances in the remedy of glioblastoma, the prognosis of the patient remains to fail. In this study, we and others have used that use micro-RNAs (miRs) as therapeutic tools that can target multiple pathways in glioblastoma.ObjectivesWe selected miR-4731 based on a literature and micro-RNA database (target scan & mir walk). We have tested the hypothesis that overexpression of mir-4731 may have anti-glioma effects.ResultsWe identified miR-4731 has tumor suppressor effects in glioblastoma. The miR-4731 overexpression reduced in vitro proliferation and induces apoptosis. Quantitative PCR documented that mir-4731 suppressed EGFR pathway.ConclusionThis work shows miR-4731 may be a novel tumor suppressor micRNA for glioblastoma. Largely through targeting of EGFR pathway causes reduce proliferation of glioma cell lines.
