Platelet rich plasma as a tool for inflammatory bowel disease treatment

Nowadays, platelet rich plasma (PRP) has opened a new window for inflammatory disease such as osteoarterits. PRP has shown significant anti-inflammatory, therapeutic and trophic potential. In this study, we have designed an experiment to assess PRP therapy potential on experimental colitis model. Acute colitis in rat induced by intracolonic administration of 50 mg /kg trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid (TNBS). Rats were divided into five groups: control group, TNBS group, sulfasalazine group, PRP group. Groups with PRP and sulfasalazine received daily dose of intra-peritoneal injection of PRP and sulfasalazine, respectively. Body weight, disease activity index (DAI), colon length, colon weight to length ratio were measured. PRP significantly suppressed TNBS-induced body weight loss, colon length shortening and decreased the colon weight to length ratio. The results of this study suggested that PRP as new promising therapeutic option for inflammatory diseases are able to show anti-inflammatory effects on colitis.
