چکیده مقاله:

Background: With the advance of transfusion medicine, the method of platelets production was gradually shifted from centrifugal methods toward plateletpheresis .Aims: Plateletphersis has many advantages over traditional methods. Therefore, platelet donor’s care is very important. Donors careprogram begun in 2015 at the Iranian Blood Transfusion Organization. Methods: This study was conducted on plateletpheresis donors , who were apheresised with Trima and Hemonetics machins from 2015 to 2017. Firstly, guidelines were prepared. Side effects were monitored, using monthly follow-up forms from 29 provincial centers which performed apheresis. Results: Out of 13297 Platelet donations by Trima and Hemonetics, 163 (1.2%)side effects were reported. The most side effects respectively were 74 cases of vascular injury (45%), 57 cases (35%) of vasovagal shock followed by 27 cases (17%) citrate toxicity. In this study, there was no correlation between the side effect - vasovagal - and history of donation. There was no correlation between type and incidence of side effects with the kind of Apheresis machine. Reactions in the majority of cases were mild (81%), and 17.6 % were moderate. Summary / Conclusions: Considering this fact that hematoma was the most side effects, it was recommended to train the phlebotomists.
