Identification of Effective Factors on Fisheries using Fuzzy AHP and SWOT

Along with the rapid growth of food production in the world, aquacultureand fisheries are also growing. Fisheries have a special status in Iranianeconomy. On the one hand, providing about 400,000 tons of aquaticspecies and supplying it to domestic and foreign markets plays animportant role in supplying part of the animal protein requirement of Iran.On the other hand, export of fish, shrimp and caviar each year importabout 60 billion dollars of currency in Iran.SWOT analysis is a very effective analytical tool used to identify externaland internal factors of an organization. The status of Iranian fisheries isanalyzed by using SWOT. At first, external and internal factors arestudied. strength (S), weaknesses (W), opportunities (O), and threats (T)are identified. Experts opinions were used in this research. Fuzzy AHPmethod is used to weigh the factors. Fuzzy AHP is one of the multiplecriteria decision making tool. After determining the weight of factors,strategies are introduced. The results of this study can help to improvethe fisheries industry in Iran.
