چکیده مقاله:

Background: One of the common methods of healing burn wounds is the use of silver sulfadiazine (SSD) cream 1%, the most important complication of which is the delay in healing of the wound. this study was done in order to identify and evaluate effective medicines in the treatment of burn wounds, in which the effect of chamomile cream and sulfadiazine cream 1% on second degree burns was compared.Materials and Methods: This triple-blind clinical trial was performed in 2018 on 88 patients going to the burn clinic; the patients had superficial second-degree burn wounds with a range of 1-10%. The dressing with chamomile cream and SSD cream was performed daily by researcher until the healing of the burn wound. The duration of healing and incidence of infection was evaluated according to a checklist. Data analysis was performed using SPSS software and the statistical tests of Chi-square, independent t-test, and Fisher exact test. Results: findings showed that the mean duration of burn wound healing in the group treated with chamomile cream was 6.26 and in the group treated with SSD cream 1% was 10.42 day (P<0.001). Moreover the incidence of infection in the group treated with chamomile cream was 4 (11.8%) and in the group treated with SSD cream 1% was 11 (33.3%) cases, (P=0.03).Conclusion: the duration of burn wound healing and the incidence of infection in the group treated with chamomile cream was less than that with SSD cream 1%, hence Chamomile cream is more effective than SSD cream 1% in the treatment of burn wounds, and can be used as a natural alternative in the treatment of superficial second degree burns.
