چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim: Burn is one of the most destructive events that can happen to a person throughout his life. During the course of burn treatment, pain and pruritus cause sleep disturbances and decrease sleep quality. Low sleep quality is associated with many disadvantages such as anxiety, depression and low quality of life. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of foot reflexology on sleep quality in patients with burns.Materials and Methods: This experimental study with the IRCT20180103038211N1 code at the Clinical Trials Registry, was conducted in Valiasr Hospital in Arak city on 66 patients with burns. The sampling was carried out using convenience method, and then divided randomly into two groups of control and intervention. In the intervention group, in addition to the usual care, the foot reflexology was performed three times a day, one hour before the change dressing. In the control group, a foot massage was done. The instruments were demographic and Pittsburgh sleep quality questionnaire, Sleep quality was measured once before intervention on the first day and once at the end of the intervention and on the sixth day. The results were analyzed by SPSS software. Results: The two groups were homogeneous for demographic information. The average total score of sleep quality in both groups was more than 5 before the study, which indicates poor sleep quality in both groups. The results of this study showed that reflexology intervention, although it improved the quality of sleep in the intervention group, but this change was not statistically significant (p = 0.361).Conclusion: in the present study, foot reflexology in these patients did not significantly change the quality of sleep. But in the other studies, reflexology has improved the quality of sleep. Therefore, this intervention can be used as a method for improving sleep quality in these patients. Perhaps the small size of the sample, and the short duration of the study were reasons for the results in our study.
