The Debate in Biofilm producing Shigella flexenarii: the real fact or story Running title: biofilm formation in shigella flexneri

Background and Aim: The biofilm formation causes many serious problems in the treatment of bacterial infections. In addition, chronic infection due to biofilm formation can make a huge burden in health care systems. Also, many bacteria are biofilm producers as an important strategy for pathogenicity.The purpose in this study was to investigate the biofilm formation in Shigella flexneri clinical isolates.Methods: So, thirty S.flexneri clinical isolates were collected from Ahvaz, Iran. Then, the collected bacteria were subjected to biofilm formation assay.Conclusion: Our results demonstrated that a significant number of samples were identified as strong and moderate biofilm producers. Therefore, based on our results, biofilms formation can be one of the main strategies in pathogenicity in bacteria. In addition, it seems that more extensive studies and research in the field are necessary.
