Maintaining B2B engagements between startups and incumbents: Presenting a through typology of cooperation sorts

Recognized as the economies‟ source of sustainable employment, startups hold a determining position as the driving engine of technology as well. Despite the whopping figure of early failures, the survived startups on one hand play a major role in development of national innovation index and on the other hand compensate for the lostoccupations resulting from failed startups. Incumbent firms as the other impressive player of economy despite being imparted of resources, capabilities and assets that startups can only dream of, are vulnerable to the dynamics of markets and economies. Whereas structural complexity and focused decision making beside conservative approach of such adult companies dwindle their tendency to catch the market opportunities and lessen their capability to join emerging streams of alterations. We suggest maintaining B2B engagements between startups and incumbents as a bilateral solution. Thereby startups access to the complementary resources necessary for entering the markets; and incumbents make benefit from startups‟ agility and innovative capability besides diffusing entrepreneurial behavior among their staff. Having reviewed the recent literature in this regard, this research presents a comprehensive framework for selection of the suitable engagement method based on both party‟s minded variables and parameters; using meta-synthesis research method.
