Introduction: Increasing the access of foreign immigrants tohealth services will maintain and improve the health of theimmigrant population and is an important step towards globalpeace and security. The plan was designed and implemented toimprove health literacy and access of Afghan refugees to healthservices in the province of Alborz.Methods: An Afghan-funded immigrant empowerment plan forhealth sector programs funded by the Danish RefugeeAssociation (DRC) in collaboration with the Scientific andExecutive Vice-Chancellor of Health at the Alborz University ofMedical Sciences Jointly implemented. In the quasi experimentalintervention plan, 57 educated young Afghans living in theAlborz province, introduced by the Danish Refugee SupportSociety, participated during the second half of 2017. First, healthneeds assessment was performed and then educationalinterventions were designed and implemented in BehvarziSchool. Using Lecture و Group Discussion, Workgroup, BookletDistribution and CD in the courses. Pre-test and test posts weretaken. Data analysis was done by SPSS16 software. Wilcoxon testwas carried out.Results: Educational topics included facilitating,communication, training peer groups, health education, noncommunicable diseases, communicable diseases, family health,mental health, environmental health and work and occupationalhealth, nutrition and disaster preparedness. In the peer group ofAfghan citizens, 72% of the participants were female and the restwere men. 12 percent had graduate degrees and 88 percent haduniversity degrees. The comparison of the mean scores of pre-testand posttest showed that the level of knowledge of Afghancitizens participating in the classes had a significant increase.Pvalue<0.001.Conclusion: With proper and timely access to health information,part of the social deprivation of the vulnerable group ofimmigrants will be resolved. The use of capacity of the Afghanrefugee population to improve their health should be consideredby health planners of the country.
