Title: The Effect of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing on the Quality of Life of Elderly Women Living in Nursing Homes

Background: Dynamic aging is the process of optimizing opportunities for health, participation, and security in order to improve the quality of life of older people. Hence, the present study aimed to investigate the effect of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing on the quality of life elderly women living in nursing homes Methods: The present study was a field trial conducted on 60 elderly women living in a nursing home. The participants were first selected using non-probability sampling method. Then, they were allocated to the intervention and control groups, using a randomized block design. Those in the intervention group participated in five 90-minute sessions of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing program within 2 weeks. The pretest and posttest data were collected using the McNew quality of life questionnaire and were statistically analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics (at the 95% confidence interval) in SPSS-22. Results: The results showed that all aspects of quality of life significantly improved in the intervention group after participating in the eye movement desensitization and reprocessing program (p=0.001). By contrast, no significant improvement was found in the quality of life in the control group Conclusion: The study findings suggested that eye movement desensitization and reprocessing was effective in the quality of life of elderly women in different aspects. Therefore, this intervention can be applied by the healthcare staff as an effective technique to improve the quality of life of elderly women living in nursing homes
