This study looks into the various techniques employed by high schools in promoting media literacy and correlates each with the school’s rateof success. Data regarding the techniques utilized was gathered by surveying 5 high schools in the capital of five different countries-- Iran(Tehran), Finland (Helsinki), Netherlands (Amsterdam), New Zealand (Wellington), and Sweden (Stockholm). In the survey were questionsregarding whether or not the school promotes discussions regarding technology, creates customized learning experiences with the assistanceof technology, informs students and staff about the ways media messages are spread and interpreted differently, and utilizes digitallearning material to enhance student learning-- providing them with the opportunity to learn outside of the classroom and etc. By providingdetailed descriptions of currently available research works in different parts of the world, as well as a survey conducted during the researchprocess, this project enables a comparative analysis of different approaches to media instruction within both national and internationallocations, offers a specific replicable model for classroom research by other practitioners, and also sheds light onto the most effective methodmedia teaching, enabling the development of approaches which differ from ones commonly employed in Iran and other developing countries
