چکیده مقاله:

Hypothalamic Hamartomas as potentially epileptogenic lesions with various neurologic and endocrine manifestations require microsurgical procedures which are complex and usually result in persistence of seizures due to incomplete resection. Stereotactic Radiosurgery would be a good treatment option for Hypothalamic Hamartomas specifically ones which their sizes are small or medium. Also the results are best achieved when the Radiosurgery is performed in early years of childhood and done with 16 Gy or more of prescribed doses. After performing Stereotactic Radiosurgery, some degrees of worsening of seizures can be occurred but such events would be a positive sign showing that the procedure leads to successful results. Stereotactic Radiosurgery to treat Hypothalamic Hamartomas does not have any sever complications for the neurological system but the effects will be appeared with delay. Although it would be variable but for seizures usually it takes a time between three to six months until the seizures can be decreased in their amounts. Gammaknife and Cyberknife Radiosurgeries are effective treatment options for Hypothalamic Hamartomas specifically small or medium sized ones. For larger Hamartomas, integrating Surgical debulking with Stereotactic Radiosurgery results in effective treatment with reduction in seizures amount.
