چکیده مقاله:

The bowmouth guitarfish (Rhina ancylostoma) is a batoid species of the family Rhinidae so that to date, the different cestode species, belonging to the orders Tetraphyllidea, Lecanicephalidea, and Trypanorhyncha, have been reported or described from that fish species. Although this batoid species is also found in the Persian Gulf, there is not any information on its intestinal cestode fauna from this water body. In the present study, the examination of the intestines of the two specimens of Rhina ancylostomawith different sexualities caught from the eastern Persian Gulf resulted in that three trypanorhynch cestodes, belonging to the family Mixodigmatidae of the superfamily Eutetrarhynchoidea, were found from the male host (191 cm). Considering the morphology of the proglottids and scolex, oncotaxy in the basal armature and the presence of chainette elements with 8–9 principal hooks, seventh of which is posterior to the hooks 8 and 9, these cestode specimens were identified as Halysiorhynchus macrocephalus. This cestode species is reported for the first time from R. ancylostoma and hence a new host record is established in the present study
