چکیده مقاله:

Curcumin is a potent bioactive component of turmeric with high anti-oxidant and anti-cancer activity. Curcumin has been documented as a promising pharmaceutical component; but its low aqueous solubility hinder clinical application. Emerging new technologies in the field of extraction and formulation can overcome low solubility limitations. The technologies have emphasis on green recovery processes and high efficient delivery of bio-active components. Ultrasonic assisted extraction was used. In order to extract curcumin with high quality, carbomate ionic liquid was used as extraction solvent. Different extraction parameters was considered to increase curcumin extraction yield. Quantitative and qualitative analysis of extracted curcumin confirmed using UV-Vis and HPLC analysis. The polymer-drug conjugate is widely accepted and popular approach in drug delivery systems. Then, the curcumin-alginate conjugate was developed to enhance the therapeutic activity of curcumin. The self- assembled micelles formed particles sizes of about 130 nm. The spherical particles were visualized using AFM. The conjugation of curcumin was confirmed using FT-IR analysis. The curcumin loaded micelles showed enhanced aqueous stability and high solubility with low toxicity. Hence, curcumin-alginate micelles could be a promising drug delivery system for cancer delivery.
