Treatment Strategy for Irreparable Rotator Cuff Tears

Recently, patients with shoulder pain have increased rapidly. Of all shoulderdisorders, rotator cuff tears (RCTs) are most prevalent in the middle-aged and olderadults, which is the primary reason for shoulder surgery in the population. Someauthors have reported that up to %30 of total RCTs can be classified as irreparabledue to the massive tear size and severe muscle atrophy. Different treatment methodsfor this condition described as conservative treatment, arthroscopic debridement,tuberoplasty, partial repair, complete repair, margin convergence, medialization,graft augmentation, Biceps augmentation, tendon transfer, superior capsularreconstruction, biodegradable subacromial spacer insertion, arthroplasty. Treatmentof irreparable RCTs is a challenging task for orthopedic surgeons. It is imperativeto determine an appropriate treatment strategy based on thorough assessmentof various factors, including the patient›s systemic medical condition, functionaldemands, extent and severity of tear, and previous history of shoulder surgery.
