Surgical Techniques for the Reconstruction of Malunited Ankle Fractures

Ankle fractures are common and most heal well so there is a certain lack of attentionfor the potential for adverse consequences and the potential to salvage thesecomplications. There is a clear association between ankle fracture malunion anda poor outcome; whilst reconstruction can often be accomplished it can be verydifficult. The key lies in accurate assessment, careful preoperative planning andproficiency in specialized reconstructive techniques. We describe this process usingclinical cases to illustrate the management of malunion.
