Assessment of Sexual Dysfunction and Its Related Factors in Pregnant Women Referred to Mashhad Health Centers (2017-2018)

Introduction: Pregnancy is a phenomenon that is associated with and psychology changes. It plays an important role in women’s sexual function, as sexual relationships are changing due to physical and psychological changes in pregnancy. This study was aimed to Assessment of sexual dysfunction and its related factors in pregnant women referred to Mashhad health centers (2017-2018)Mthods: This Cross-sectional study was conducted on 241 pregnant women in the referring to the Health center in Mashhad, Iran in 2017. Data collection were demographic questionnaire and female sexual function Index. Data analysis was performed in SPSS version 16 using the multi liner regression model test at the significance level of P< 0/05.Results: The results of the study showed that the mean of the total score of sexual performance was 26.47 ± 5.64 and 131 (54.4%) of women had sexual dysfunction. Mean scores of sexual desire (3.95 ± 0.98), Arousal (4.15 ± 1.19), Lubrication (4.64 ± 1.25), orgasm (53.3 ± 0.3) / 4), satisfaction (4.89 ± 1.10) and pain (4.14 ± 1.36) And the most common sexual dysfunction were sexual desire (46.5%) and Arousal (43.6%). The results of linear regression showed that having a previous delivery is effective on sexual function. So that in multiparous pregnant women, the mean of the total score of sexual function decreased 1.86 unit (P = 0.01).Conclusion: The results shown a high prevalence of sexual dysfunction in pregnant women and having a previous delivery had a negative effect on sexual function. Therefore, it is suggested that sexual counseling programs, especially for multiparous pregnant women, should be designed and implemented.
