چکیده مقاله:

The current challenges in routine treatment of gynecological cancer, especially ovarian and cervical malignancies, are drug and radiation resistance. In this regard, curcumin as a polyphenol derived from Curcuma longa plant has indicated effective actions that result in to improve the therapeutic efficiency of radiochemotherapy. Curcumin has anti-proliferative, anti-metastatic, anti-angiogenic, and anti-inflammatory features and could act as a chemopreventive factor and relieve the out-of target side effects induced chemotherapeutics on surrounding normal tissues. Combination of curcumin with some chemodrugs such as Cisplatin and Oxaloplatin and also irradiation in gynecological cancers may help to resensitize the cell molecular targets. Regarding the intrinsic ROS scavenging potency of cells, level of curcumin in normal and tumor tissues can determine its effect. Hence, it is necessary to evaluate the therapeutic benefits of combination therapy using a given curcumin formulation and a chemodrug formulation followed by radiotherapy, to intensify anticancer potential of curcumin. In addition, it seems rational approaches for improving the therapeutic benefits of curcumin derivatives and using nanoformulations to development curcumin stability in physiological media in order to managing the treatment of resistant cancer tumors of gynecological cancers is required.
