چکیده مقاله:

Stem cell therapy has introduced promising hopes for the treatment ofvarious diseases. On the other hand, clinical utilization of stem cellsneeds to translate basic sciences and protocols before starting clinicalphases by bridging stem cell research into clinical trials. Therefore, stemcells translational medicine will open a new horizon in this area ofresearch and practice. Accordingly, there are several risk factors relevantto the safety issues of stem cell preparation and transplantation that mustbe considered in the translational phase. For instance; transplantationsite reactions, immune responses, biodistribution, ectopic grafting, unintended differentiation into another cell type, tumorigenicity, andlack of functional characteristics. In summary, to conduct clinical stemcell transplantation trials, the safety concerns must be carefully weighed against the potential benefits and all preclinical and clinical researchesmust be designed to elucidate potential safety concerns before translatingfrom the bench to the bedside.
