چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim: Menopause is part of women s lives, but some of its symptoms are severe. There are a wide range of menopausal symptoms, including general, physical, mental, and genitourinary symptoms. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between dietary patterns and these symptoms. Methods: In this descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study, 400 postmenopausal women referred to municipal health houses and community urban health centers in the south of Tehran were selected by simple random sampling method. Menopausal symptoms were evaluated using the Menopause Rating Scale questionnaire (MRS). Physical activity was determined by using the International Assessment of Physical Activity short-term questionnaire (IPAQ). Anthropometric measurements including weight, height and waist circumference measurements were performed and dietary patterns were determined using a 147-item food frequency questionnaire for one year and analyzed by factor analysis. Linear regression was used to investigate the relationship between dietary patterns and menopausal symptoms. Results: Factor analysis method was used to identify two main dietary patterns: 1. Vegetables and fruits (VF) and 2. Solid fats and snacks (SFS). The pattern of VF was negatively associated with general (P for trend <0.001), physical (P for trend <0.001) and mental (P for trend <0.001) menopause symptoms. the SFS dietary pattern was positively related to the general (P for trend=0.01), physical (P for trend=0.04) and mental (P for trend<0.001) symptoms. Conclusion: The study found that there was a relationship between dietary patterns and menopausal symptoms.
