چکیده مقاله:
Background and Aim: : Dietary Energy Density (DED) defined as the energy content of foods (kJ or kcal) per unit weight of foods (g) that has an important effect on the regulation of energy intake and some health-related factors, including adiposity index, weight reduction and weight maintenance, but its function in regulatory of resting metabolic rate (RMR) is even less understood. Therefore, in this study was to investigate the association between RMR respiratory quotient (RQ) and DED in overweight and obese women. Methods: A total of 301 overweight and obese women were included in the current comparative cross-sectional study. Body composition was measured using body composition analyzer. RMR was measured by means of indirect calorimetry. The usual food intake of people over the past year evaluated through the use of a semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire. Results: There was a significant difference between the energy density of the food and the age, the amount of CO2 produced, resting metabolic rate, resting metabolic rate per kg of weight and the respiration rate (P <0.05). After adjusting the data to age, lean mass and physical activity, the relationship between the energy density of the diet and resting metabolic rate per kilogram of body weight was still meaningful (P <0.0001). There was no significant relationship between dietary energy density and adipocyte index (P = 0.55). Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that there is a positive relationship between RMR, RQ and DED.
