چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim: Our purpose was to estimate CO2 emissions and water waste which occurs due to food waste at the canteen of Nutrition and Food Technology Faculty of Shahid Beheshti medical University.Methods: Food waste quantity was measured and recorded for 26 days. To estimate water waste, water footprint method was used. The carbon footprint method has been applied in order to calculate the amount of carbon dioxide emitted during the production process of the food that was discarded.Results: 1237193.9 g carbon dioxide was emitted due to food waste throughout the study. Total water waste reached 914.16 m³. Grey water, green water and blue water waste were subsequently 69.44, 643.3 and 201.4 m³.Conclusion: Since food waste is really high, reducing it can benefit the environment especially in Iran that is facing a water shortage crisis and air pollution.
