چکیده مقاله:
Background and Aim: Due to a lot of complications of menopause in women which may be related to diet, the present study was conducted to examine the association between dietary inflammatory index (DII) score and menopausal symptoms (MS) across postmenopausal women. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 393 postmenopausal women who have referred to urban health centers affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences and health houses affiliated with the southern municipality of Tehran, Iran. The DII score was calculated using 34 dietary factors obtained through a validated 147 item food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) questionnaire was used to evaluate the MS for each participant. Linear regression models were used to assess the association between the DII score and MS.Results: Participants with pro-inflammatory diet (higher DII score) have greater somatic symptoms versus those in the first tertile of DII (anti-inflammatory diet) (p<0.05). This significant positive association was not observed for psychological and urinary-genital symptoms. The obtained results did not change after multivariable adjustments. Conclusion: Pro-inflammatory diet was associated with higher somatic complaints related to menopause.
