چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim: Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death around the world and Arterial stiffness (AS) is a leading cause of cardiovascular disease (CVD), and it is considered to be affected by dietary intake. However, few studies have examined the correlation between major dietary patterns and carotid-femoral pulse-wave velocity (PWV), and So far, the correlation between the dominant Iranian dietary patterns and the arterial stiffness is unclear. We investigated the associations of major dietary patterns with carotid-femoral pulse-wave velocity (PWV), a gold standard for assessing AS and predicting CVD risk. Methods: In this ongoing cross-sectional study, 700 healthy Iranian adult subjects (35-70 years, 350 men and 350 women) were chosen from Persian cohort between 2017 and 2018. Dietary intake is documented using a validated food-frequency questionnaire, and dietary patterns are generated using factor analysis. Correlational analyses are performed between PWV and identified dietary patterns. Results: This is an ongoing study and the study has not been completed yet. Based on the exist results we are expecting to identify specific dietary patterns. In multivariate models, a significant positive association was observed between PWV and a dietary pattern positively correlated with meat and fast food consumption and negatively correlated with Dairy, vegetables, fruits, chicken, seafood and legumes consumption. Conclusion: Based on our obtained findings so far we expect that a nutritionally poor dietary pattern, characterized by a high meat consumption and low micronutrients intake might be related to an increased stiffening of large arteries.
