چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim: Diabetes, a chronic disease which is characterized by increased blood glucose levels. Omega 3 can action via insulin resistance prevention, anti inflammatory effects, insulin synthesis through increased production and secretion of Adipocytokines. Myonectin is a new myokine can change the energy status in cells, reducing overweight and obesity, and thereby may reduce the incidence of diabetes. It has also seen that myonectin rate is decreased in diabetic patients. So the aim of our study was to investigate the effects of omega-3 supplements on myonectin serum levels in type 2 diabetic patients. Methods: This study was taken on 44 patients who suffered type 2 diabetes. The participants divided into 2 groups of omega-3 supplement and placebo receiver by random. The supplement dosage was 1250 mg three times per day and the intervention last 10 weeks. Anthropometric indices and blood samples were collected at the beginning and at the end of study. Eventually serum myonectin was measured by ELISA method. Results: At the baseline there was no significant difference from the point of serum myonectin level. It’s level was increased in both of the groups after intervention, however the difference was not significant statistically. But it’s changes (myonectin diff) during intervention was different significantly (p=0.016). Also a significant difference was observed in myonectin levels of serum in supplement group before and after intervention (p=0.012). No changes was seen for other anthropometric variables between 2 visits in both groups. Conclusion: Omega-3 poly unsaturated fatty acids supplementation can increase the serum myonectin levels of diabetic patients significantly.
