The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of causative bacteria of NIs among patients admitted in ICU of the Shohada hospital from 2011 to 2014. Methods: This is a retrospective study of inpatients of ICU inShohada hospital from 2011 to 2014. All patients were examined by using standard microbiological methods according to the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines. Descriptive statistics were used for data analysis. Results: During a 4-year period of study,197 patients in ICU represented nosocomial infections. The most common pathogens associated with nosocomial infections were Gram-negative bacteria and frequently detected bacterialpathogens includedKlebciellaspp43 (21.8%),Escherichia coli38 (19.3%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa33 (16.8%)and Staphylococcus aureus14(7.1%) as the most gram positive agent. The most common sites ofnosocomial infection with Gram-Negative Bacteria and Gram-positive Bacteriawere the respiratory tract 87 (49.72%) and blood 9 (40.91%), respectively. Conclusion: The survey of the prevalence of nosocomial infections helps the Infection Control Committeesto detect problems in the control process of nosocomial infections and develop effectual strategiesto prevent and control these infections accordingly.
