چکیده مقاله:

Introduction and Objectives: Staphylococcus aureus is one of the main hospital bacteria causing infections in the burn ward. The appearance and spread of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in Burn Intensive Care Unit (BICU) has detrimental effects for patients including extended hospitalization time, frequent recurrence of infections, Bacteremia,139Septicemia and even death. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of nasal carriage S.aureus and its resistance antibiotic pattern among burn unit personnel working at Shahid Sadoughi Hospital, Yazd, Iran.Materials and Methods: Nasal swabs were collected from anterior nares of 104 burn unit staff and identified using standard biochemical tests. Disk diffusion method was used to determine antimicrobial susceptibility of isolates according to clinical and laboratory standards institute (CLSI). The MRSA isolates were detected by susceptibility of isolates to cefoxitin (30μg).Results: The rate of S.aureus nasal carriage was 57.7% (60/104), of which 25% (15/60) were detected as MRSA. The highest percentage of resistance was found against linezolid (13.3%). Resistance to quinupristine-dalfopristin and vancomycin were 6.7% and 5%, respectively. Resistance of isolates to several antibiotics was detected. Conclusion: The results indicate that frequency of S.aureus in our study is remarkable. This study shows the necessity of periodic screening of employees and effective medical treatments particularly against MRSA isolates to eliminate sources of infection in different wards of the hospital.
