چکیده مقاله:
Purpose: To report the clinical outcome of rhuthenium-106 plaque radiotherapy in acquired RPE tumors. Methods: The clinical finding, management and outcomes of three cases with acquired RPE tumor referred to ocular oncologic clinic at a university based hospital (Rassoul Akram Hospital, Tehran, Iran) or senior author’s (MN) private clinic from August 2013 to May 2017 were evaluated. Plaque radiotherapy with rhuthenium-106 was considered in the management of all three cases. Results: The ages of patients were 31, 32 and, 44 years old. Two patients were female and the other one was male. The follow-up times were 7, 10 and 50 months. The tumor was unilateral and hyper pigmented in all cases, located at juxta-papillary in one patient and on peripheral part of retina in the others. Vitreous hemorrhage and peripheral exudation was obvious in two patients. Macular edema, epi-retinal membrane and retinal feeder vessels were also detected in the examination. All patients underwent plaque radiotherapy with rhuthenium-106 as first or second step of management. The tumor has been stable until last follow-up in all patients with globe preservation and acceptable visual acuity. Conclusion: Rhuthenium-106 plaque radiotherapy might be a conservative therapy in the management of acquired RPE tumors that prevents early enucleation.
