Acupuncture is a complementary therapy that is being increasingly used in the management of pain especially chronic pain. The prevalence of the pain has become problem in the field of medical and public health. In the world, 60 million people (approximately 10% of the world population) experience chronic pain. For pain management, many research studies indicate that acupuncture effectively treats pain and is a reasonable referral option. For the treatment of pain, many studies indicate that acupuncture effectively treats or is a good adjutant in pain management and is a reasonable referral option. Acupuncture has been widely developed; however, its mechanisms of action remain unknown. However, some challenges exist in establishing evidence for the efficacy of acupuncture and nowadays acupunctures techniques are defined in evidenced based medicine. In recent years, l RCTs and meta-analysis of the effectiveness of acupuncture have greatly advanced the knowledge of acupuncture. This article offers a summary of the evidence base for its effectiveness and the clinical applications for which and where acupuncture may help pain practitioners.
