Review on the effect of self-care education on the life quality of patients infected with diabetes

Introduction: Diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases, and it is the fifth main cause of mortality all over the world. This disease causes the irreparable consequences, imposing the direct and indirect costs on health system and enormous effect on patients life quality. As the most important underlying factor of mortality in these patients is the lack of doing self-care activities, observing these activities not only improves the life quality of an individual, family, and people infected with a chronic disease, but also plays a very important role in decreasing the therapeutic costs resulting from the frequent hospitalizations. This study was performed to review the effect of self-care education on the life quality of patients infected with diabetes. Research Method: The findings of this review study have been obtained by searching the definite keywords in scientific books and information bases called Ovid, Sid, Google Scholar. Results: The studies show that self-care behaviors education including observation of the diet, physical activity, self-seeking the level of sugar in blood, and the way of correct injection and maintenance of Insulin has a positive effect on improving the life quality of the patients with diabetes. Conclusion: Regarding the high outbreak of diabetes, strengthening the didactic and supportive councils, the techniques specific to self-care education, and encouraging the patients to do the self-care activities in order to improve the health and therapeutic costs can be an effective step for improving the life quality of patients infected with diabetes.
