The survey of domestic violence rate and factors affecting it in married men of the city Sabzevar (2018)

Introduction: According to the report of W.H.O in 2016, one third of 15 – 49 year old women have been exposed to violence. Among the wide range of violence against women, domestic violence is the most current so that 90% of women are the victims of domestic violence. The first step towards planning to drop the domestic violence is to set its amount in the community and to detect the affecting factors in its emergence in view of those who commit it. Methods: In this cross – sectional descriptive – analytical research, 388 married men from Sabzevar in 2018 were selected and studied by cluster random sampling. For data collection, the standard questionnaires were used which their validity and reliability had been approved. For analysis, descriptive and analytical statistical tests were utilized in SPSS20 statistic software. Findings: On the basis of the results, domestic violence was measured about 87% among the population under study. With regard to the violence type, physical, sexual, economic, and mental violence’s were the commonest kinds respectively. The social factors weakening family strength, women’s living unhealthily with husbands, and lack of skill in acting out as a wife, paradox of families support, wrong cultural teachings in society and non – mediation of spouses in solving the problems were respectively the most important factors in connection with violence. There was a significant correlation between factors affecting violence emergence and violence type. Among this, the highest correlation index belonged to the spouses’ lack of life skills in relation to all types of violence. Conclusion: Concerning the high rate of violence in the above population, reduction planning would be necessary. In respect of the relationship between the investigated variables especially the spouses’ lack of skills in life affairs and various kinds of violence, the recommendation is to adopt policies and plans in order to remove or reduce the effect of these factors for the purpose of lowering the domestic violence.
