Hospital waste management: attitude and behavior of staff

Background and Objectives: This study aimed to assess the level of knowledge, attitude and performance of employees in Imam Khomeini hospital and Motazedi hospital in Kermanshah which is related to the proper management of hospital wastes. Martials and Methods: The investigation carried out by completing a questionnaire randomly by four different occupational groups. In this study171 hospital staff were involved. The results were analyzed by Excel 2010 and SPSS-16 software. Results: The results of this study showed that there is a meaningful relationship between the performance of employees and the job status and also there is a significant statistical relationship between the knowledge, attitude, performance and the training courses. According to this study, knowledge, performance and the attitude of hospital staff about hospital waste management with 95% of confidence interval were respectively 74.49%, 68.12% and 86.14%. Conclusion: The staff training with monitoring and improving their performance is one of the most important factors for successful implementation of hospital management programs. In addition to the need of creating infrastructure and training facilities, increasing investment and more attention to the proper performance of staff in the field of hospital waste management are necessary for all targeting groups periodically.
