Survey Quality of Rural Drinking water supply in Dehaghan County in 2016

Background and Aim: The physical, chemical and microbial properties of water are the criteria to consider it as drinking water quality. Unfavorable changes in such parameters may threat consumers health. The aim of this study is to give a clear view of physical, chemical and microbial quality of the rural water supply in dehaghan county and compare with national and EPA standards. Materials and Methods: This descriptive periodical study was done during Jan 2016 to Dec 2016. And 156 Samples were collected directly from the 13 rural water supply in dehaghan county. Parameters of chemical and physical, including EC ,TDS, Turbidity, Hardness, nitrate, nitrite, Alkality, Fluoride and remaining chlorine were monitored and analyses were done according to standard methods. Multiple tube fermentation method was used to determine fecal and total coliform bacteria and spread plate method was used to measure heterotrophic bacteria. Results: The average residual chlorine, nitrate, nitrite, Hardness, Fluoride were, (0.61±0.11), (39.7±), (0.003±0.001), (375.6±143), (0.26±0.11), (232±87) Mg/L in a samples of water respectively. An average concentration of EC, TDS, fecal coliform, total coliform was (1115±371) mS/cm and (587±) Mg/L, (0.00) MPN/100Ml, (0.00) MPN/100Ml respectively. Statistical analysis doesn t show a meaningful difference between the parameters with standard parameters Conclusion: Quality of the rural water supply in dehaghan was not problematical from health point of view. However, high TDS and nitrate content may increase diarrhea risk in consumer as well as corrosive effect of water and also may was dangerous for children and pregnant women.
