چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim: One of the main components of biogas is methane which despite its harmful greenhouse effects, it is well known as a valuable fuel. One of the main resources of methane emissions is the waste disposals of landfill sites. The goal of this study was to estimate the volume of methane gases that can be released from the waste landfill of Saqqez city over a 20-year period, 2015-2034. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, initial information including the amount of generated waste, population size, and the characteristics of municipal solid waste landfill of Saqqez were collected. Initial population and population growth of Saqqez obtained from the 2012 national census were used to predict population for consecutive years. Methane emissions adjusted for population was estimated using LANDGEM. Results: The amount of annual waste was estimated from 62050 to 108805 tons for 2015 to 2034 respectively. The potential methane emissions were estimated to be 32m3/h in 2016 and 2203m3/h by 2034 Conclusion: In summary, the results of this study can assist city managers with modelling methane emissions from landfills in order to make appropriate actions to control and manage methane emissions.
