چکیده مقاله:

The objective of this paper is to simulate and investigate the behavior of metallic foams under loads resulting from frontal impact in automobile crashes, comparison between different porosities and states of loading. In addition to introducing different types of metallic foams regarding to their application in automotive industry, their behavior under impact loadings would be evaluated. To have a better understanding of their behavior there should be a clear knowledge of their microstructure as well as their macroscopic mechanical properties. The numerical methods are not only efficient but also very helpful in predicting the microstructural behavior of the material. The simulations carried out are based on Finite Element Method (FEM), using ABAQUS software. In order to simulate the behavior of metallic foams under impact loading, 6061 aluminum alloy bar with a square section has been adopted and for demonstrating different porosities, spherical pores with different dimensions and distribution patterns have been used. The results showed that by increasing the porosity percent, the transferred force were decreased.
