چکیده مقاله:

A field experiment was conducted to show the effect of tillage and irrigation methods in the properties of gypsiferous soil that is planted with Wheat crop. The experiment was conducted in Karbala governorate, Ein al-Tamr district which has a gypsum content of 490 g.kg-1. Three systems of tillage have been applied: Zero tillage, conventional tillage with a depth of 15 cm, deep tillage with a depth of 30 cm. on the other hand, two irrigation methods have been adopted: sprinkler irrigation and surface irrigation. Soil properties represented by EC, gypsum content, pH, CEC and O.M were estimated before and after cultivation .In addition to that, some properties of Wheat crop such as plant length, grain yield, and weight of 100 grains were measured as well. The conventional tillage treatment is superior in improving all soil and plant properties by giving better results when adopting sprinkler irrigation compared to surface irrigation. Gypsum content was more soluble, with a content of 380 g. kg-1, when using deep tillage and surface irrigation. The least soluble treatment, with a content 475 g. kg-1, when using conventional tillage and sprinkler irrigation. As for soil salinity, traditional tillage has reduced its value to the desired extent. The best growth of the plant was marked when applying conventional tillage and sprinkler irrigation. This paper aims to study the possibility of utilizing the method of tillage with the method of irrigation in obtaining the best productivity for gypsiferous soil.
