Comparison of cytokeratin 8 and 18 as urinary tumor markers with cystoscopy and urine cytology in patients with bladder urothelial carcinoma INTRODUCTION: Beside of standard methods for diagnosing of bladder urothelial carcinoma such as cystoscopy and biopsy, the role of noninvasive methods such as urinary tumor markersis rising. The goal of this trial is comparison between cytokeratin 8 and 18 as urinary tumor markers (UBC) and cytology and histopathology in patients with bladder urothelial carcinoma. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Based on including criteria, 68 patients were enrolled in this trial .Three urinary sample for UBC and cytology were used. Then all of the patients have undergone cystoscopy and some ones were undergone TUR-BT as needed and histopathology studies were completed. Finally the results of urinary cytology and UBC were compared with the results of histopathology. RESULTS: Among 68 patients, 41 patients (60.3%) had TCC. In comparison of urinary cytology, UBC sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and accuracy was 52.9%, 82.4%, 50%, 84% and 75% respectively. In comparison of urinary cystoscopy, UBC sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and accuracy was 43.9%, 100%, 100%, 54% and 66.2% respectively.COCLUSION: UBC has not acceptable sensitivity and accuracy for diagnosing of bladder TCC .
