Conserved OprF as a selective immunogen against Pseudomonas aeruginosa

The general outer membrane porin of the most problematic organisms Pseudomonas aeruginosa, OprF, is a good vaccine candidate. In this study, we investigated the conservation of the protein in 150 strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa via bioinformatics. Of these, 134 strains from clinical specimens and other strains were from environmental samples. T-COFFEE and PRALINE software used for alignment clearly showed that this protein conserved. GRAVY and antigenicity were found favorable. The results indicated that the protein is highly conserved in all pathogenic and environmental strains of P. aeruginosa and thus can be considered as a good immunogen; however, the protectivity of OprF is needed to be validated experimentally.
