چکیده مقاله:

Background & Objectives: Myocardial infarction is one of the most common causes of death in the world. Multi factors have causative role in creation of myocardial infarction like cigarette, diabetes, hypertension and etc. It seems that the blood groups have relation with it, so the purpose of the present study was to survey the relationship between blood groups and myocardial infarction. Materials & Methods: This cross-sectional study included 235 patients with myocardial infarction as the case group and 235 cases randomly selected as the control group. All the patients underwent blood type tests. Results: The mean age of the case and control groups was 55.3 and 58.2 years. The distribution of blood groups between the case group was: O, B, A & AB in order 40.4, 29.8, 23.4, 6.4 percents, with Rh+ 86.6 and Rh- 13.4. The results between the control groups were as: O, A, B & AB in order 35.3, 28.7, 26.5 and 9.5 percent, with Rh+ 88.3 and Rh- 11.7. Statistical tests demonstrated no significant differences between the distribution of blood groups and myocardial infarction. Conclusion: Our results showed no significant relationship between myocardial infarction and blood groups, but it seems that the persons with blood group B are more capable for myocardial infarction than the persons with blood group A. More studies are necessary for this.
