چکیده مقاله:

Background: Trichogram is a beneficial diagnostic tool in approaching to complicated hair problems, so studies on its various demographic, epidemiologic and clinicopathologic aspects and comparing it with other trichologic methods in normal population or different hair and scalp disorders could be of great value. Methods and materials: all articles related to trichogram and other proposed hair diagnostic methods, searched and then reviewed. Results: There are many hair or skin specific disorders with diagnostic clues of trichogram: Alopecia areata (narrow and normal parts of hair shaft and painbrush tip), Androgenic alopecia (different hair shaft diameters and progressive shortening, dystrophic hairs also increased telogens), Anaen effluvium (increased anagen shedding (golf club hairs)), Telogen effluvium (telogen hairs (club hairs) > 20% and shorter hairs with uniform diameters), Trichotillomania (normal proximal end (root), variable middle hair shaft based on how disease or patient has been treated and clear cut distal end (tip)), Pemghigus (easily anagen plucked hairs without any resistance (positive Nikolsky), non dystrophic intact anagen root sheath and normal percent of telogens which results from early telogen loss and lower telogen proportion of established cases), Psoriasis (highly increased dystrophic hairs but little increased telogens in non-alopecic psoriatic regions), Loose anagen syndrome (painlessly pulled anagens, hair root sheath absence, ruffled proximal cuticle and bent matrix, which are causing by abnormal inner root sheath cornification). Conclusion: Although trichogram is a valuable diagnostic method for approaching complicated hair disorders but it seems trending toward less aggressive and more sensitive methods like trichoscopy and trichoscan (digital phototrichogram).
