Evaluation of antimicrobial effects of malva neglecta hydro alcoholic extracts on three different oral pathogens an in vitrostudy

Introduction:From many years ago, herbal extracts have been used for curing diseases especially infectiousones. In this study antimicrobial effects of malva neglecta extracts including leaves and fruitswere evaluated on three different oral pathogens including:Lactobacillus, Streptococcus salivaris and Streptococcus mutans.Methods:The herbal extracts that used were malva neglecta fruit and leaves alcoholic andhidroalchole extracts in 6 different (0.1-0.3-0.5-1-10-20) concentration. Blank diskscontaining water- alchol were used as control. Antimicrobial effects of each extract weredetermined according to the diameter of no growth area in the cultureResults:The results showed that malva neglecta alcoholic and hydroalcoholic leaves extracts hadgreat antibacterial effect on all bacterial species but forut of malva neglecta alcoholic aswell as hydroalcoholic extracts had only antibacterial effect on the Streptococcus salivaris.With icreased concentration of extracts inceased antimicrobial activity. None of the controldisk showed any effect on the culture.Conclusion:This study show that malva neglecta leave and fruit extracts have an appropriate effects onthe oral pathogens .
